To show off the fifth generation Toyota 4Runner's 120-volt AC power outlet, Saatchi & Saatchi asked us to help them create a rich media page takeover that puts users in the middle of a precarious situation, much like the thrill seekers featured in their "You In?" campaign.
When users encounter our ad, the entire page is darkened to emulate nighttime. Only two items can be seen, a power outlet and an orange power cord dangling from the top of the page. As soon as the user plugs in the cord, the page flickers on and users are surprised by a pack of lifelike insects, including a tarantula and scorpion, scattering off the page. The whole event is enough to make your hair stand on end!
In its one-day run on ESPN.com, an astounding 17% of users exposed to the ad interacted with it. That added up to over 6.1 million users amassing a total brand engagement time of 18,876.7 hours.
